Team China to face defending champions Germany in United Cup 2025

SYDNEY, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Team China, led by Paris 2024 Olympic women's singles champion Zheng Qinwen and highest ranked Chinese male tennis player Zhang Zhizhen, was drawn on Monday into the group with defending champions Germany and Brazil in the 2025 Union Cup team event.

The official draw set up Team China in Group E in Perth against Germany, led by world No. 3 Alexander Zverev, and Brazil, led by world No. 10 Beatriz Haddad Maia.

A total of 18 teams in six groups will compete in the third edition of the United Cup in Perth and Sydney from December 27, 2024 to January 5, 2025.

Top seed Team USA, led by 2023 US Open champion and world No. 3 Coco Gauff and world No.6 and 2024 US Open finalist Taylor Fritz, will headline Group A in Perth, alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime and Leylah Fernandez's Team Canada and a third team to be confirmed in November.

No. 2 seed Team Poland, led by five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek, will face Team Czech Republic, led by Karolina Muchova, and Team Norway, led by Casper Ruud, in Group B in Sydney.

The United Cup official draw on Monday determined where the top 16 teams will play. The second qualification date of November 19 will determine the final two teams. ■
