NIZWA, Oman, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Nizwa Fort, one of Oman's most iconic historical landmarks, stands as a testament to the nation's rich heritage and architectural ingenuity. Built during the reign of Imam Sultan bin Saif bin Malik Al Yarubi between 1649 and 1679 AD, the construction of the fort spanned 12 years, beginning in the mid-17th century.
Rising 34 meters high with a diameter of 45 meters, Nizwa Fort features a flat-roofed platform constructed atop a base of crushed stone, extending approximately 30 meters to the ground.
Just a two-hour drive from Oman's capital Muscat, the fort is one of the most famous and frequently visited sites in the country.
