Interior design firm Studio Gutow –co-founded by Lisa Berman and Melissa Rohani – thoughtfully transforms every detail in the home previously owned by Warren Buffet, imbuing it with modern cottage charm.
The renovated contemporary property offers breathtaking beach views that stretch into the horizon, accentuated by a rugged rocky coastline that cascades into the Emerald Bay gated community in Laguna Beach, California. Notably, this three-year project is particularly significant, given it was crafted for the co-founder herself, Melissa Rohani and her family. As such, Studio Gutow was able to show off its most authentic style – bold hues, striking patterns and luxurious textures thoughtfully integrated throughout the house.
The home exudes the firm's trademark style - a modern flair blended seamlessly with traditional elements. In keeping with this theme, the designers fused the 1930s bones of the home with the untouched interiors from the 1970s, covering a vast 4,898 square feet and four spacious bedrooms. The resulting layered aesthetic cleverly represents both the home's roots and co-founder Rohani's personal collections, culminating in an eclectic and contemporary interpretation.
Studio Gutow showcased their exquisite craftsmanship in every detail of this beachside cottage residence. The use of expertly curated materials, from tongue and groove ceilings to custom textural fabrics, is prominent throughout the home. The living room impresses with its breathtaking ocean views and luxurious furnishings such as the MLK Sofa and antique Marc Phillips’ rug fill the space with elevated richness.
Every room in the home created by Studio Gutow was designed to exude comfort and a friendly sense of welcoming. Given that the family living there has children and that their home reflects joyful playfulness, there was a strong desire to instil an atmosphere of geniality in each space. This idea is embodied in the warm colour palette that permeates every room, with delightful accents of taupe, cognac, and olive thoughtfully placed in select areas.
The culmination of Studio Gutow's efforts resulted in a luxurious yet cosy space for Melissa Rohani's family, a contemporary sanctuary. Seamlessly harmonising the timeless appeal of the past with the refined sophistication of the present, the final product is a testament to Studio Gutow's unparalleled skill in creating unforgettable living spaces.
