Celebrating the nuances of our dining scene and the people and restaurants keeping them alive, the third edition of Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2025 was announced today, straying from tradition and unveiling its Bib Gourmand and Michelin Selected lists alongside Michelin stars at one go.

2025’s guide spans 143 dining venues across Kuala Lumpur and Penang, seeing 12 new Bib Gourmand entries and 10 new additions to its Michelin Selected list. Our dining scene’s collection of Michelin stars has also grown by two with Chim by Chef Noom and Molina, both of which opened this year, earning one Michelin star each.

The ceremony kicked off by announcing Michelin Selected restaurants that have been awarded during previous ceremonies. Differing from a Bib Gourmand recognition or star rating, the Michelin Selected list awards restaurants where diners can find “good, well-cooked meals.” Notable highlights include Akar Dining, Bol, Eat and Cook, Entier, Frangipaani, Jawi House, Jwala, Kayra, Nadodi, Skillet, Sushi Masa, and Vantador.

Joining the already expansive Selected list are 12 exceptional venues including Atelier Binchotan, Barkar, Firewood, Potager, and Terra Dining.

In recognition of eateries that offer impressive meals at reasonable, accessible price points, the Michelin Bib Gourmand list was announced, proving great plates are never dependent on their price tags. 56 Bib Gourmand awarded eateries retained their spots, from Bukit Damansara’s Aliyaa and George Town’s Communal Table by Gēn to Chinatown’s beloved Lai Foong Lala Noodles and Penang’s Duck Blood Curry Mee.

New additions to the list include Coast by Kayra, Leen’s, Ravi’s Famous Apom Manis, and Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles.

While Malaysia may have only been home to four one-starred restaurants and a lone two-starred restaurant, that changed today. Both Chim by Chef Noom and Molina were awarded one Michelin star each. The first has garnered widespread acclaim for championing lesser-known Thai dishes and preserving lost recipes while the latter specialises in avant-garde European cuisine that weaves together familiar flavours and innovation.

Dewakan continues to be the only two-starred establishment in the country but made history during the ceremony after being presented with Malaysia’s first Green Star, an award that acknowledges sustainable gastronomy and eco-responsibility.
