HONG KONG, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The Security Bureau of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Hong Kong disciplinary forces have voiced their full support for establishing and improving at the state level the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for the HKSAR to safeguard national security.

A draft decision on establishing and improving the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for the HKSAR to safeguard national security has been submitted to the third session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) for deliberation on Friday.

John Lee, secretary for security of the HKSAR government, said the violence in Hong Kong has been escalating in the past year, with many cases involving explosives and genuine firearms.

"I fully support the NPC's draft decision on establishing and improving the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for the HKSAR to safeguard national security which allows Hong Kong to be back on track, ensuring its long-term prosperity and stability," he said.

Lee said he will lead all disciplinary forces to discharge their duties for safeguarding national security.

Also expressing his full support for the national security legislation for the HKSAR, Commissioner of Police Tang Ping-keung said the draft decision will help combat the force of "Hong Kong independence" and restore social order.

The Hong Kong police fully support the national security legislation for the HKSAR and will perform its duties fully to maintain national security and ensure Hong Kong's security and stability, Tang said.

Tang said he will strive his best to lead the police force to work with other disciplinary forces under the Security Bureau in maintaining national security.

Commissioner of Correctional Services Woo Ying-ming welcomed the draft decision, saying under the leadership of the Security Bureau, the Correctional Services Department will cooperate with other disciplinary forces to support the police to take resolute enforcement actions, and to assist the HKSAR government in restoring public order, stopping violence, curbing disorder and safeguarding national security.

Woo said the Correctional Services Department will fully support the draft decision, hoping that Hong Kong can soon return to the normal track.

Commissioner of Customs and Excise Hermes Tang said that the draft decision helps to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests as well as to ensure the robustness of the "one country, two systems" and long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.

The commissioner said his department will collaborate with other disciplinary forces in protecting Hong and safeguarding national security under the guidance of the Security Bureau.

He said he will strive to lead the department to perform its gatekeeping role in preventing the import and export of controlled and prohibited items into and out of Hong Kong, with a view to prohibiting acts that endanger Hong Kong and national security.

Director of Fire Services Joseph Leung said that the Fire Service Department (FSD) fully supports the Security Bureau in leading all disciplinary forces to discharge their due duties for safeguarding national security and the safety of Hong Kong.

Leung said the FSD will remain steadfast in its duties, stand united to fulfil its statutory duties, and strive to protect the lives and properties of the public, making Hong Kong a safe place to live and work.

Controller of the Government Flying Service (GFS) Wu Wai-hung expressed support for the draft decision, saying that the GFS will fully support the HKSAR government to perform its due responsibilities to safeguard national security.■
