Wong Kar-wai’s debut film,As Tears Go By, describes Wah, a small-time gangster who struggles to protect his reckless younger brother while dealing with his growing feelings for his cousin, Ngor. In this movie that explores modern loneliness, Michelle Reis plays the role of the hitman's partner, a mysterious and seductive woman, who wears slip dresses and chokers, giving off sleek killer vibes.

Released in 2000, In the Mood for Love is one of the most recognised works by Wong Kar-wai, its aesthetic is still widely popular on Tik Tok, after over two decades of its release. Set in 1962, the movie depicts the restrained yet intense connection between Chow Mo-wan and Su Li-zhen who suspect their spouses of having an affair, as they navigate each other’s unspoken feelings.
Played by Maggie Cheung, the female character Su Li-zhen pulled off qipao, a style of Chinese traditional dress. Now, you can turn to Shanghai Tang to recreate this ’60s-style qipao look.
