Apple, as one of the most recognized and common fruit among the world. It has become the symbol of wisdom in many mythologies. Even the apple tree was regarded as the Tree of Knowledge. Throughout my whole career path as a bartender, I have met many mentors who gave me different “apples” to become a good bartender. Service, cocktail techniques, presentation, calculation, etc. Learning from all the knowledges from them has made me become who I am now.
When I was first stepped into the bartender industry, I always train my balance of cocktail through Daiquiri, Gimlet, Margarita, Gin Fizz. And I always wonder, there are so many different fruits are commonly used in the classic cocktails, why are fresh apple cocktails are so rare among the classic. The flavor of apple is so remarkable from its aroma and juiciness and has such a wonderful image of wisdom. With the help of this Bacardi Legacy opportunity, I decided to create a cocktail which I could pass it to everyone to practice the balance of sweetness, sourness, bitterness, and saltiness with the rich apple flavor. Just like how my mentors pass their wisdom to me.
In the 1700’s, apples were gifted to teachers in Denmark and Sweden, as a mark of their knowledge and intellect. This tradition began to be followed in the United States from the 19th Century onwards. And in 2023, I would like to pass this wisdom apple in the form of my cocktail creation to my mentors to say thank you and pass this wisdom to the future generations for them to learn as a start of their bartender career.
