Chinese shares close mixed Monday

BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.24 percent to 3,160.76 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed flat at 9,796.18 points.

The combined turnover covered by the two indices stood at 966.4 billion yuan (about 134.43 billion U.S. dollars), down 181.9 billion yuan from the previous trading day.

Shares in sectors related to oil and gas, non-ferrous metals, and software development were among the biggest gainers, while those related to home appliances, e-commerce, and power grid equipment suffered major losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.36 percent to close at 1,982.46 points Monday. ■
