BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Japanese sports anime "Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle" maintained its dominance at the box office chart on the Chinese mainland on Monday, securing the top position for its first three days of release, data showed.
The film generated 5.57 million yuan (about 782,900 U.S. dollars) in ticket sales on Monday. Based on one of the most successful manga of the past decade "Haikyu!!," it tells the story of Shoyo Hinata, a boy determined to become a great volleyball player despite his small size.
Domestic teen comedy "Be My Friend" came in second with a daily box office earning of 5.33 million yuan.
"Break Through the Darkness," a crime action movie featuring China's fight against organized crime, ranked third on the daily revenue chart, grossing 4.95 million yuan on Monday.
The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland stood at 34.37 million yuan on Monday. ■
