BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

PARIS -- France will further unwind anti-coronavirus lockdown from June 2, lifting 100-km travel restriction and allowing non-essential businesses, parks and beaches to reopen, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced on Thursday.

The last three weeks of the first phase of deconfinement had "good results," Philippe told a press meeting. "During this phase 2, freedom will become the rule again and bans will be the exception."

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 58 more cases of the COVID-19 compared to 24 hours ago as of 0:00 a.m. Friday local time, raising the total number of infections to 11,402.

The daily caseload rose sharply for the past three days, recording 79 on Thursday and 40 on Wednesday each.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Friday that no new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported on the Chinese mainland on Thursday.

No deaths related to the disease were reported, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

JERUSALEM -- Israeli health ministry's data has showed success in using convalescent plasma to treat COVID-19 patients, especially those in moderate condition.

Based on the data, 10 of 11 moderate patients showed improvement after the plasma treatment.

SANTIAGO -- Chile on Thursday said a total of 86,943 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus and 890 have died from the disease.

In the 24-hour period ending 9 p.m. Wednesday, healthcare workers detected 4,654 new cases and 49 more patients died, the largest number in a single day since the start of the outbreak.

ALGIERS -- Algerian authorities on Thursday announced the extension of lockdown from May 30 to June 13, as the number of infections with COVID-19 in the country near 9,000.

"After consultation with members of the Scientific Commission in charge of following up the progress of the COVID-19 pandemic, and after approval of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the government decided to extend the lockdown period for an additional 15 days, starting from May 30 until June 13," read a statement by the Prime Minister Office.

NEW YORK -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States topped 1.7 million on Thursday, reaching 1,700,350 as of 9:32 a.m. (1332 GMT), according to a tally kept by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

Meanwhile, the total deaths nationwide, which passed 100,000 on Wednesday, reached 100,467, according to the tally.  ■
