BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:
1. Tang, Qin clinch golds in 100m breaststroke at short course swimming worlds
China dominated the breaststroke events at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) on December 12, with Tang Qianting and Qin Haiyang both claiming victories over the 100m distance.
Tang, fresh from breaking the Asian record in the semifinals, finished first in the final in 1:02.38, just 0.02 seconds off the world record.
The victory completed her gold sweep in the event this year in the short course after three wins in the World Cup.
Her teammate Qin secured the men's title in an Asian record time of 55.47 seconds.
2. Sun Long wins three golds at ISU short track tour Beijing leg
Sun Long was the brightest star on home ice as he took three gold medals at the 2024/25 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Tour in the Olympic venue of Capital Indoor Stadium.
The 24-year-old clinched the men's 500m gold in 40.155 seconds on December 7, before contributing to team victories in both the mixed team relay and the men's 5,000m relay on December 8.
Sun also bagged a bronze in the men's 1,500m.
3. China retains title at table tennis Mixed Team World Cup
China retained its title at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Mixed Team World Cup with an 8-1 victory over South Korea in the final in Chengdu on December 8.
In the opening mixed doubles match, Olympic champions Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha gifted China a favorable start by defeating South Korean duo Cho Dae-seong and Shin Yu-bin 11-9, 17-19, 11-4.
World No. 2 Wang Manyu put China further ahead in the women's singles event, triumphing 11-3, 11-7, 11-2 over Kim Na-yeong.
Teenager Lin Shidong secured China's title with an 11-6, 11-4, 11-6 win over Oh Jun-sung in the men's singles match.
4. Olympic champions Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong into final at BWF World Tour Finals
Olympic champions Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong ousted Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin 21-11, 21-18 in an all-Chinese mixed doubles semifinal at the BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou on December 14.
Zheng, who announced his retirement from international badminton after this tournament, will look to wrap up his career with a gold with his long-time partner Huang, as they face the Malaysian duo Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei in the final on December 15.
The host has secured the women's singles title, with Han Yue and Wang Zhiyi defeating Aya Ohori of Japan and An Se-young of South Korea in straight games in the semifinals respectively.
5. Inductees for 2024 China Basketball Hall of Fame unveiled
The Chinese Basketball Association revealed the inductees for the 2024 China Basketball Hall of Fame on December 9.
The outstanding male athletes honored this year are Li Hanting and Gong Xiaobin. The outstanding female athletes include Yang Jie and Miao Lijie. The award for outstanding coach goes to Ma Qingsheng, while the outstanding referee title is awarded to Guo Yupei. Recognized as pioneers of Chinese basketball are Li Zhenzhong, Wu Chengzhang, and Huang Lie.
To date, the Hall of Fame has celebrated 42 individual inductees and three teams. ■
