DOHA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A Lan's vital goal helped Beijing Guo'an beat FC Tokyo 1-0 and pushed them into the AFC Champions League quarterfinals for the first time here on Sunday.

The Brazilian-born striker A Lan, previously known as Alan Carvalho, scored the decisive goal in the 59th minute, stretching Beijing's unbeaten run in the tournament to seven matches.

Both teams created several wonderful opportunities in the first half, but neither seized their chances to break the deadlock. A Lan missed two great chances, but didn't miss out on the third one.

Renato Augusto dribbled the ball into the penalty area and A Lan shot the ball into the net before the goalkeeper could react. A Lan grabbed four goals in this season's tournament, and his total goals in AFC Champions League reached 15.

Tokyo searched for an equalizer but failed to penetrate the defence of Guo'an goalkeeper Hou Sen in the remaining minutes.

Beijing Guo'an will prepare for a Thursday quarterfinal, with their opponents to be determined by the knockout stage draw on Tuesday morning.  ■
