YANGON, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A 12-year-old boy named Paw Myar rescued over 100 people during severe flooding in early September in Myanmar, according to recent reports from state-run Myanmar Radio and Television.

Living in Aung Thukha village of Lewe township in Nay Pyi Taw, Paw Myar, whose name means "abundance," has become a remarkable hero amid the flooding crisis.

"During the rescues, I often had to paddle with my hands when the waves were strong and I also gave a piggyback ride to the elders. On September 11 and 12, I rescued many elders and other people by myself, both at night and during the day, and it brought me great joy to see them safe," Paw Myar told Xinhua.

Paw Myar said he dreamed of becoming a doctor one day. "I want to save many people's lives," he said enthusiastically.

His father, Min Naing, a fisherman, said: "Paw Myar only attended primary school, as his responsibilities at home prevented him from pursuing further education. Now, I plan to enroll my son in school to fulfill his desire for education."

"He deserves it. Even though I couldn't help, he stepped up and did it. He is skilled at handling boats but struggled on his own and didn't even wear a life jacket. I am truly delighted by my son's actions," he said.

Ngwe Hlaing, 38, who was rescued by Paw Myar, said: "My brothers and I are adults and strong, but we didn't know how to handle this situation. Everything around us was water, and I felt very upset."

"When he arrived to rescue us, I felt very happy and our lives depended on him. Although many adults were present and could operate a motorboat, none knew how to navigate it in such an emergency. This young boy was the only one who could handle it and came to save us," he said.

"Not everyone can do what he did. He is truly a hero, despite his young age," he added.

Paw Myar's heroic actions impacted his community and caught the attention of well-wishers and donors on social media, leading to donations.

Gu Gu, a donor from Yangon, said, "I donated a motorboat and honorary cash to Paw Myar in collaboration with other supporters."

"While some motorboat drivers take advantage of the situation to profit from carrying victims during floods, this young boy helps flood victims without asking for money," he said on the young boy's selflessness.

"He skillfully applied his abilities to benefit his village during tough times and he is truly a kind-hearted boy," he added.■
