SEOUL, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's tech behemoth Samsung Electronics planned to cut its overseas staff by up to 30 percent at some divisions, Reuters reported Wednesday citing unidentified sources.

Samsung's overseas subsidiaries had been instructed to curtail sales and marketing staff by about 15 percent and administrative staff by up to 30 percent by the end of this year.

The global layoff plan would impact jobs across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa, Reuters noted.

Samsung was quoted as saying that the plan, aimed at improving efficiency, will not affect its production staff.

The South Korean company had a 267,800-strong workforce at the end of 2023, and 147,000 employees were based overseas.
