Venice Film Festival, which kicked off on August 31, is back for its 81st iteration celebrating the best of new cinema worldwide.
The premieres and events across multiple days have been awash with chic outfits, standout accessories and, of course, international talent galore. We spotlight the Asian celebrities—including actors, directors and influencers—who stepped out in strong looks, from classic ensembles to experimental styling, that stood out on the red carpet.

Chinese actress and jury member Zhang Ziyi took notes from gothic dressing and opted for a black velvet jumpsuit from the Armani Privé fall-winter 24 couture collection. The high collar, structured shoulders and beret all played well together, while the fan was a chic and practical accessory to beat the summer heat.

Japanese Jun Ichikawa sported a silver studded black sleeveless dress from Sandro while arriving at the Hotel Excelsior on September 1. She leaned into the sleek nature of the look with a slicked-back bun, a flick of black eyeliner and gold earrings from Maria Patrizia Marra for contrast.
Rahi Chadda in Jacquemus

Influencer Rahi Chadda took “wearing the pants” to the next level with this tailored Jacquemus ensemble from its 15th-anniversary collection. The sleeves of his top emulate the feel of the legs of the trousers, resulting in an optical illusion that makes it look like he’s wearing a fabulous pair of never-ending bottoms.

Model and actress Jung Ho-yeon went for a classic yet elevated red carpet look with this black velvet gown from Louis Vuitton. The cutout panels on the bodice created a simple yet striking focal point of the dress that juxtaposed well with the sheer mesh, and the low ponytail and red lipstick were minimalistic yet bold styling choices to complement the look.

Filipino actor Paul Jake Paule made his Venice Film Festival debut at the Phantosmia premiere wearing traditional clothing to celebrate his heritage and the themes of the movie. He wore a long gold jacket with orange and brown woven panels with geometric patterns, as well as a black, white, red and yellow beaded necklace featuring similar patterns.

Past Lives director Celine Song sported head-to-toe black Loewe look with a bright yellow small Flamenco bag for a pop of colour. The ensemble consisted of an extra-large blazer over top of a long dress with translucent ruched bodice, plus patent leather boots and a hint of a gold waist chain to break up all the dark elements.

This silvery lavender gown by Vania Romoff Studio was an elegant choice for Filipino actor Janine Gutierrez’s Venice Film Festival debut. Her fitted bodice highlighted the volume of her skirt, emulating a princess dress feel, and the JMA Jewellery further emphasised this style.

Thai Chinese actor Wichanukhor “Minlee” Thanakorn sported a few labels on the red carpet, including a Vanillin Studios belted blazer and Marc Jacobs polka dotted trousers. He also wore a number of pearl necklaces to tie in with white elements of his look.

Chinese Singer Sdanny Lee and Malaysian director Tan Chui Mui rocked up in Miu Miu looks at the Hotel Excelsior on September 1, ahead of the Miu Miu Women’s Tales dinner. Both looks gave off cool, collegiate vibes: Lee’s sweet white collared dress and grey jumper contrasting with her tough moto boots, while Tan’s oversized slacks paired well with her rolled up shirt and argyle sweater.

Beauty and lifestyle influencer Olivia Yang made her Venice Film Festival debut at the Hotel Excelsior wearing a gown by Valdrin Sahiti. The black latex worked with the sleek, bodycon silhouette, while the delicate 3D flowers along the neckline added texture and dimension.
