BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Xu Zuo, former deputy general manager of the CITIC Group, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and removed from public office over serious violations of Party discipline and laws, an official statement said on Thursday.
The decision was made following an investigation by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, according to the statement.
Xu, also a former member of the group's Party committee, was found to have discarded his leadership responsibilities for rigorous Party self-governance, and had contaminated the political ecosystem within the group.
He disregarded the Party's eight-point frugality code, concealed the properties owned by his family, held shares in non-listed companies against the rules, and took advantage of his post to seek interests for his relatives.
Xu also took advantage of his positions to seek benefits for others in promotions and recruitment, project contracting, business cooperation and other matters, accepting huge amounts of money and valuables in return, according to the statement.
The investigation found that Xu had operated the same business as that of the CITIC Group, where he held office, using it to seek substantial illicit gains.
His actions constitute serious duty-related malfeasance, and his illicit gains will be confiscated and his case transferred to prosecutors for review and prosecution procedures, the statement said.
Xu was placed under investigation in June. ■
