BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Japanese sports anime "Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle" topped the box office chart on the Chinese mainland on Saturday on its debut with a daily earning of 49.45 million yuan (about 6.95 million U.S. dollars), data showed.
The film was based on one of the most successful manga of the past decade "Haikyu!!," which tells the story of Shoyo Hinata, a boy determined to become a great volleyball player despite his small size.
Domestic teen comedy "Be My Friend" ranked second grossing 11.23 million yuan in box office revenue on Saturday.
Crime comedy "Walk the Line" came in third with a daily box office earning of 9.54 million yuan.
The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland stood at 118.87 million yuan on Saturday. ■
