Falling on March 8 every year, International Women’s Day (IWD) is a day to honour the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The occasion also marks a call to action for promoting gender parity and women’s empowerment.

This year’s theme #EachforEqual is about building a gender-balanced world. With IWD fast approaching, we’ve rounded up five of the most exciting Hong Kong events for you to celebrate the occasion with your girlfriends

1/5 The Women's Foundation Gala Lunch

Founded in 2004, The Women’s Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving lives of female in Hong Kong through community programmes, education and research, with a strong focus on promoting women’s rights and social participation.

This year, the organisation will host their yearly lunch at the Conrad Hotel, Hong Kong, with the theme of “Designing Equality” in honour of IWD. Guests can expect a panel of inspiring female speakers, such Generation T Lister Marisa Yiu, co-founder and executive director of Design Trust; and Kian Yam, co-founder of MLKK Studio.

2/5 International Women’s Day Dinner: Cooking for a Good Cause

What better way to celebrate IWD than to enjoy a scrumptious feast for a good cause? Vicky Lau of Tate Dining Room is going to invite seven talented female figures from different industries for a charity dinner collaboration, with all proceeds going to the Beyond Foundation.  
 
The line-up of chefs features top names including Charmaine Mok, T.Dining Editorial Director; Gigi Ng, fourth-generation owner of Chinese restaurant Ser Wong Fun; Yenn Wong, founder of Jia Group and more. Each person will be crafting a dish to complete the eight-course tasting menu.

3/5 International Women's Day at Fivelements Habitat

Urban retreat Fivelements Habitat is celebrating this year’s IWD with an event dedicated to powerful women in wellness. The event will gather a group of Hong Kong’s leading female founders, vegan entrepreneurs, as well as sustainability experts, to explore themes such as wellness practices, conscious business and female empowerment.  
 
Part of the proceeds will be donated to HER Fund, a local organisation that strives to promote gender equality and women’s rights. A single-day pass will allow you to access multiple sessions with speakers such as Adeline Chan, founder of VeggieWorld; Payal Shah, founder of L'Dezen; and Jasmine Nunns fromKembali, to name just a few.

4/5 Women of Wine Festival 2020

The highly anticipated Women of Wine Festival is returning with a diverse line-up of inspirational women and activities this year. The evening will feature a panel discussion by influential businesswomen, networking sessions, wine masterclasses and workshops, where guests can also enjoy a host of delicious wines crafted by women as they learn.  

Notable figures such as Annabelle Baker, director of LUSH Asia Limited; Janice Leung-Hayes, founder of Tong Chong Street Market; and Isabel Fan, country director of Tesla Motors Hong Kong will be speaking at the festival.

5/5 Meraki Hospitality Group x The Vibe Tribe: Special Event for International Women’s Day

This year, Meraki Hospitality Group is joining hands with Cristina McLauchlan from The Vibe Tribe for a leisurely afternoon to celebrate women’s achievements. Hosted at the Brazilian-Japanese eatery Uma Nota, guests are invited to savour a luscious selection of canapes and drinks while listening to six influential women’s stories on how they actively choose to challenge stereotypes and advance own social status as a female.  
 
Meet successful entrepreneurs such as Olivia Cotes-James, founder & CEO of LUÜNA naturals; Natalie Chow, founder of Lacess; and Gabrielle Kirstein, founder and executive director of Feeding Hong Kong at the event.
