AMMAN, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi met here on Monday with his Lebanese counterpart Youssef Rajji, discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations and the latest developments in Lebanon, according to a statement from Jordan's Foreign Ministry.

During the talks, Safadi and Rajji reiterated their commitments to deepening bilateral cooperation across various fields.

Both ministers emphasized the urgent need to halt Israeli aggression against Lebanon and ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement reached in November last year.

Safadi reaffirmed Jordan's full support for Lebanon's security, stability, and sovereignty, as well as its efforts to reactivate state institutions and advance reconstruction following the election of a new president in January.

For his part, Rajji expressed appreciation for Jordan's support under the leadership of King Abdullah II, particularly its continuous efforts to mobilize international support to end Israeli aggression and ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire.

Tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border have persisted despite a U.S.- and French-brokered ceasefire agreement in place since Nov. 27, 2024, which ended more than a year of clashes between Israel and Hezbollah amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Israel has maintained military presence at five key positions along the Lebanese border despite a Feb. 18 withdrawal deadline set by the agreement. The Israeli military continues to conduct strikes in Lebanon, stating that they are aimed at countering "Hezbollah threats."■
