CAIRO, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Since a Hamas-Israel ceasefire took effect on Jan. 19, 680 Palestinian patients and 1,850 accompanying individuals from the Gaza Strip have crossed into Egypt via the Rafah crossing, Egypt's press center said on Wednesday.

The statement added that 7,000 trucks carrying over 130,000 tonnes of aid and 20,000 tents have reached Gaza through Egyptian crossings with Israel and Gaza.

The first group of patients and their companions arrived in Egypt on Feb. 1, following the reopening of the Rafah crossing, Gaza's only gateway to Egypt.

The Rafah crossing has been crucial for delivering aid from Egypt, other countries, and international organizations.

The crossing was reopened from the Egyptian side on Jan. 19 as part of the ceasefire agreement. Israel has controlled the Palestinian side of the crossing since May 2024.
