BEIRUT, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Twenty people were killed and 50 others were injured on Thursday morning in Israeli airstrikes on several towns and villages in southern and eastern Lebanon, according to official and military sources in Lebanon.
Lebanese military sources, who spoke anonymously, told Xinhua that Israeli warplanes launched 19 airstrikes on 16 villages and towns in southern Lebanon and five raids on four villages and towns in eastern Lebanon, while Israeli artillery shelled 14 border towns and villages with about 75 shells.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said in a statement that its members carried out a drone attack on Israel's Haifa naval base. It also targeted the Israeli forces in southern Lebanon with missile barrages.
The source added that Israeli forces recorded limited progress on the eastern and northern outskirts of the southeast town of Khiam, where the Israeli forces blew up dozens of "civilian homes" in the east part.
Since Sept. 23, the Israeli army has intensified its air attack on Lebanon in an escalation of conflict with Hezbollah. Israel further initiated a ground operation across its northern border into Lebanon in early October. ■
