The Petitjean Collection will be part of the 32nd Techno-Classica Essen show next month.

RM Sotheby’s has announced a unique single-owner collection of cars for sale next month in Essen, Germany. Former race car driver Marcel Petitjean’s collection consists of nearly 100 incredibly diverse classics that range from the 1950s up to the ‘90s.

Petitjean, who is currently based in Strasbourg, France, began building up his collection of classic cars over 50 years ago with hopes of creating a motor museum where he planned to display the cars by their country of origin and marque. Most of the cars present have been under Petitjean’s care for decades and remain in original condition, having never been restored.

The collection offers something for all tastes, according to the auction house, and features affordable classics as well as luxury labels, including Lamborghini, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, among many other exotic brands.

“We are pleased to bring to market these highly original European cars that represent Marcel Petijean’s passion for the hobby and many of which have not been seen in decades,” said Oliver Camelin, Car Specialist, RM Sotheby’s Europe in a statement. “The Collection is an exciting addition to our Essen auction, and we’re thrilled to offer it entirely without reserve, inviting bidding from a range of suitors, whether they are seasoned collectors or first-time auction goers.”

Stand out lots from the collection include a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster, one of less than 30 examples delivered, a 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400, a 1964 Porsche 904 GTS; each of which are expected to fetch between US$700K to well over a million, respectively.

Lots from the collection are offered individually at the Essen auction and will form part of a total of more than 200 vehicles during the week of the Techno-Classica Essen show.
