BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Tsui Hark's big-screen adaptation of Louis Cha's wuxia novel "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" has secured its release for the 2025 Spring Festival holiday, debuting on Lunar New Year's Day, Jan. 29.

The announcement follows news of Wuershan's eagerly awaited "Creation of the Gods II" and the latest installment of the family-favorite Boonie Bears franchise, "Boonie Bears: Future Reborn," both set for Spring Festival debuts. Together, these titles are likely to shape the upcoming holiday into a highly competitive box office season.

Literally meaning "martial arts heroes," wuxia is a genre of Chinese fiction that centers on warriors or swordsmen who uphold values such as loyalty, honor and justice.

Calling wuxia a "uniquely Chinese sense of romance," a statement from the film's producers noted that "the spirit of wuxia is deeply ingrained in the hearts and souls of every Chinese individual."

Tsui is renowned for his mastery of the wuxia genre, and his adaptation focuses on chapters 34 to 40 of Cha's iconic novel "The Legend of the Condor Heroes," with Xiao Zhan and Zhuang Dafei starring as the titular heroes, Guo Jing and Huang Rong. ■
