ISLAMABAD, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The vibrant melodies of traditional Chinese music filled the air as a performer, adorned in elegant white and blue attire, swayed gracefully to the melodic tones embodying themes of hope, prosperity, and happiness to celebrate the festivities of the forthcoming Chinese New Year, here.

The audience, captivated by the mesmerizing performance, was transported into the rich tapestry of Chinese culture, appreciating the intricate movements of the performer that have been passed down to her through generations.

The event, jointly organized by the Chinese embassy in Pakistan, the Pakistan Overseas Chinese Association, and the China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan, transformed the venue into a bustling cultural bazaar.

The Stalls lined the area displayed the uniqueness of Chinese traditions, and from culinary delights to traditional medicine, the festival provided an immersive experience for both Pakistani attendees and the Chinese diaspora.

On one of the stalls, 11-year-old Liao Jingyi showcased her calligraphy skills as she wrote messages of prosperity, happiness, and warmth and, with a gentle smile, guided the visitors on how to write their own wishes.

"I am spreading wishes and hopes for prosperity, happiness, and warmth in the new year, and I hope and pray that all overseas Chinese and Pakistanis experience a joyful and prosperous New Year," Liao told Xinhua while handing over the written pieces to the visitors.

Early in the morning, many Pakistanis could be seen flocking to these food stalls, eager to enjoy authentic Chinese breakfast items prepared by Chinese chefs, and the fragrant aroma of freshly prepared dishes filled the air, bringing a sense of nostalgia for the Chinese community while also attracting curious local visitors.

Arslan Ali, the manager of a Chinese restaurant participating in the festival, said that locals take a great interest in Chinese food.

"When the Chinese chef started his business six years ago, most of the visitors were Chinese, but over the years, now 70 percent of visitors are Pakistanis who savor the mastery of the chef's cooking," Ali told Xinhua.

The festival also served as a bridge between cultures, promoting mutual appreciation and understanding.

Hassan Daud, a visitor, said that the festive celebration not only marks the beginning of the Year of the Snake but also strengthens the cultural ties between the two nations, leaving everyone with a sense of warmth and unity.

"I am happy to attend the festivity and enjoy Chinese food. I hope that more Pakistanis, especially students, should attend such events to learn about Chinese festivals and Chinese philosophy," Daud told Xinhua.

The event also provided a platform for overseas Chinese to share their sentiments and bond with their Pakistanis.

Many overseas Chinese living in Pakistan expressed their deep connection to their homeland, acknowledging the warmth and hospitality they receive from their Pakistani friends.

"Though we are far from China, our hearts remain with the motherland. But the kindness of Pakistani friends fills our hearts with happiness, and together, we celebrate this joyous occasion," said one overseas Chinese participant.

The Chinese New Year falls on Jan. 29 this year, kicking off the upcoming Year of the Snake, and as the inaugural event to welcome the new year, the event showcased a beautiful reflection of the enduring friendship between China and Pakistan.■
