BEIRUT, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon have intensified recently, targeting various locations in the country, particularly in the capital Beirut and its southern suburbs.

These strikes have resulted in significant destruction of residential areas and infrastructure, forcing many residents to evacuate their homes in search of safety.

Israel said that the goal of its military operations in Lebanon is to enable its citizens displaced by Hezbollah bombardment during the Gaza war to return home safely.

The escalation of violence has raised concerns about the ongoing conflict's impact on civilians and the broader stability of the region.

According to a report released by Lebanese authorities on Wednesday, the total number of displaced persons in Lebanon due to Israeli airstrikes has increased to nearly 1.2 million.
