The Audain Art Museum in Whistler, British Columbia is taking visitors on after hours flashlight tours

A leading art gallery in British Columbia, Canada has the virtual museum concept and transformed it into an “after dark” culture adventure.

The Audain Art Museum in Whistler is a leading arts network founded by Philanthropist Michael Audain and Yoshiko Karasawa. The contemporary and classic venue aims to promote the culture richness of Canada, boasting a collection of Canadian artists ranging from Emily Carr to Northwest Coast First Nations masks.

Although the museum has closed to visits throughout the global coronavirus pandemic, its Director and Chief Curator, Dr. Curtis Collins, has figured out a way to allow art lovers to see the collection in a new light and from the comfort of home.

The tour will highlight a different section of the museum each night as Dr. Collins takes guests between works of art with little more than a flashlight to guide the way.

Dr. Collins “really enjoyed the effect of the circular beam of light around each painting, sculpture, photo,” he said in a Narcity report. He was so struck by the effect that he had even begun snapping photos on his phone to remember the effect before deciding to take the after dark tour online.

Aside from the aesthetic whimsy, the Chief Curator will also lead you through what was formerly considered a private VIP tour as you learn about each painting and artifact by flashlight.

Dr. Collins will also be adding an extension of the series that will include a live feed artist discussion and virtual preview of their work.
