The 39-year-old man was later arrested for "negligently causing a drone to endanger any person or property", a police spokesman said.

A report from the state media CCTV said the man was shooting pictures with the drone in the vicinity of the harbourfront in Central at about 8pm that night. But it ran out of control and plunged into the barracks. The photographer then alerted the barracks himself.

A police source told the Post all the recordings the drone camera made were just of the scenic surroundings.

Around the same time, members of several health care workers' unions had assembled at Edinburgh Place next to the barracks to show their support to the ongoing anti-government protests. They threatened to ramp up the pressure on the beleaguered government with a wave of strikes from an expanded trade union movement.
