Chef Vicky Lau debuts Date By Tate—a high-end at-home dining experience created with sustainability in mind

Inspired by Hong Kong’s newfound appreciation for dining in, Vicky Lau of the Michelin-starred Tate Dining Room has launched Date by Tate, which delivers the luxury meals that she is known for straight to your home. The new luxury Gastronomy Gourmet Box concept features six courses including a signature bread basket, delivered in a multi-tier wooden tiffin with elegant reusable cutlery that will be collected by the Tate team the following day. Each day, 30 boxes will be made available from Tuesday to Saturday with a minimum of two per order.

Of course, like many things created by Lau (her former graphic designer background shines through in moments like these), the box is beautifully designed and can be kept for an additional fee of HK$500 should you be tempted. You can also choose to return the box yourself to receive a HK$150 credit per box to use on your next order.

Bringing restaurant-level sophistication to your next at-home date night, the meal kicks off with lobster custard and razor clam and cuttlefish noodle with dried squid and celtuce salad, followed by pate of Chinese sausage with veil of raspberry gel and grain toast, and smoked grey mullet with potato mustard salad. For mains, choose between Mayura beef tenderloin en brioche, or blue lobster Thermidor. A cheese course features 48 month Comte with Chinese pickled young ginger, and for dessert Lau has prepared mango passionfruit and banana mousse with white chocolate as well as her signature range of mignardises. Add-ons include a hot four onion soup with honeycomb tofu, one of the highlights from Tate’s recent Ode To Tofu menu, as well as luxe accompaniments such as Tate’s special collection caviar and fresh Australian winter truffle.

When it seems takeout and delivery will be the new normal, many are thinking about their choices when it comes to more sustainable options. While Tate’s Gastronomy Gourmet Box is priced at HK$880 per person, meaning it’s a treat rather than your average mid-week delivery meal, at least diners can breathe easy knowing that their order includes none of the single use plastic that many restaurants regrettably need to rely on. Will we see more of these “tiffin” style deliveries in the future? Here’s hoping.
