DONGXING, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Jing ethnic group is the only maritime ethnic group in China, most of its members living on the three islands off the coast of Dongxing in Guangxi's border regions adjoining Vietnam. As one of China's smallest minority groups, the Jing currently number less than 30,000. In the past, the Jing people relied completely on traditional fishing to make a living. By contrast, the Jing people now has seized ocean-oriented development opportunities, transforming traditional fishery into upgraded marine ranching. Local authorities have promoted tourism and cross-border trade, so as to increase incomes of the Jing people and help boost high-quality development.
