Update: Xi to attend APEC meeting, G20 Summit, visit Peru, Brazil

BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima and pay a state visit to Peru from Nov. 13 to 17 at the invitation of President of the Republic of Peru Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced on Friday.

Xi will attend the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro and pay a state visit to Brazil from Nov. 17 to 21 at the invitation of President of the Federative Republic of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Hua said.

President Xi's attendance at this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting fully demonstrates the great importance China attaches to Asia-Pacific economic cooperation, said Mao Ning, another foreign ministry spokesperson, at a regular press briefing.

"At present, world economic growth lacks momentum, and economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region faces new challenges," Mao said, adding that it is hoped the region will continue playing its role as an engine for world economic growth.

Xi will deliver a speech at the meeting, expounding on China's measures to deepen reform and opening up and its policies and propositions on advancing Asia-Pacific cooperation, Mao said.

The Chinese president's attendance at the G20 Summit demonstrates China's firm support for multilateralism and the great importance China attaches to G20 cooperation, Mao said, adding that Xi will deliver a speech at the meeting and have in-depth exchanges of views with leaders of other countries.

She said it is widely expected that the G20 will play its role as the premier forum for international economic cooperation, inject impetus into world economic growth, and chart the course for improving global economic governance.

On Xi's upcoming visit to Peru, Mao said since the establishment of diplomatic relations 53 years ago, China and Peru have strengthened political mutual trust and achieved fruitful results in Belt and Road cooperation.

During the visit, Xi will hold talks with his Peruvian counterpart to exchange in-depth views on bilateral relations and cooperation in key areas.

It is believed that President Xi's visit will further consolidate political mutual trust between China and Peru, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and push for more positive outcomes in bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, said Mao.

During his upcoming visit to Brazil, Xi will hold talks with the Brazilian president to exchange in-depth views on bilateral relations and on international and regional issues of common interest, said Mao.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of China-Brazil diplomatic ties. Over the past 50 years, bilateral relations have maintained sound and steady development with fruitful practical cooperation in various fields, she said.

Xi's Brazil visit will enhance political mutual trust, promote the synergy of development strategies of the two countries, and deepen strategic communication and coordination on global hotspot issues, said Mao. ■
