DHAKA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of thousands of people went to the Central Shaheed Minar, a solemn and iconic monument, in Dhaka, Bangladesh to pay tributes to the country's language movement activists who sacrificed their lives on Feb. 21, 1952, which was declared to be the International Mother Language Day by the UNESCO in 1999.
International Mother Language Day is a worldwide annual observance held on Feb. 21 to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism.
