Hong Kong protests: tear gas fired in Tsuen Wan, MTR stations and malls closing as flash mobs spring up across city

• After a relatively peaceful Saturday, black-clad protesters are out on the streets again, with some holding demonstrations in shopping malls
• Messages circulating online call for gatherings in Central, Tuen Mun, Sha Tin, Tseung Kwan O, Causeway Bay, Tsuen Wan and Kowloon Tong

Protesters are gathering in various locations across Hong Kong on Sunday to mourn the death of a university student who fell from a car park floor in unexplained circumstances near a police dispersal operation.

Messages have been circulating online, calling for people to gather at shopping malls in places such as Central, Tuen Mun, Sha Tin, Tseung Kwan O, Tsuen Wan, Causeway Bay and Kowloon Tong at 2pm. A prayer meeting is also set to take place at Chater Garden in Central at 7pm, led by Reverend Chu Yiu-ming and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Ha Chi-shing.

The actions come a day after thousands flooded Tamar Park on Saturday night for a peaceful vigil to mourn the death of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology student Chow Tsz-lok.

There are also calls on the internet for a general strike and class boycott on Monday, with protesters planning to disrupt MTR stations and block highways from 7am.
