The event is aimed at helping youngsters from Hong Kong and Macao learn more about the motherland and exchange ideas with their counterparts on the mainland, said Zhang Ming, vice president of the CLS, at the opening ceremony of the event.

Zhang urged young people to be firm patriots, be confident of the "one country, two systems," and contribute to the Chinese modernization.

Deng Zhonghua, head of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies, urged young people from Hong Kong and Macao to carry on the fine tradition of loving both the country and their own regions, uphold the rule of law, and devote their wisdom and strength to building a strong country and rejuvenating the Chinese nation.
