CLIENT BRIEF

This dynamic household, consisting of a stay-at-home mum, a finance professional dad who occasionally works from home, two young children, and two live-in helpers, approached Liquid Interiors for a seamless design solution that covered every detail – design, construction administration, furniture selection, and decor.

“Their dream home is to be warm, with creams, whites, greens, and blush pink,” says Rowena Gonzales, founder of Liquid Interiors. “They enjoy being by the seaside so they wanted a special area for their daughter to enjoy the view of the ocean on their balcony. They also enjoy having dinners for six to eight people, and for the kids’ play area to accommodate large toys.”

RECONFIGURATION

Originally, the home’s layout lacked functionality, and the family dreamed of a more expansive and inviting space for their children to play, and for hosting intimate dinner parties. The redesign has transformed the existing four-bedroom layout into a more practical three-bedroom design. This change creates a spacious play area in the living room with ample room for larger toys such as a wooden kitchen and a cosy tent.

CONCEPT & STYLE

Child safety was paramount, resulting in the use of rounded corners throughout the home. Large arches were also incorporated to foster an open and flowing atmosphere. A larger nanny’s quarters was also a priority, providing a comfortable personal space for their children’s caregiver. The wife, an avid cook and baker, spends much of her time in the living room and kitchen, so a well-equipped kitchen was installed. The husband, who values his time in the bathroom, required a smart toilet in the master bathroom. His fondness for baths was given special attention, resulting in an upgraded, luxurious master bathroom, with a spa-like ambiance.

“The design is to maximise natural daylight,” Gonzales adds. A palette of natural hues governs the interior, and a meticulous blend of soft and hard materials – such as plush rugs and wooden accents – imbues the space with warmth and cosiness.

CHALLENGE

One of the primary challenges was ensuring a healthy living environment for the family. Their home originally had poor water quality, which irritated their children’s skin and worsened their eczema. Additionally, the family frequently experienced allergies, resulting in sneezing and irritated noses.

SOLUTION

To improve wellbeing and sustainability, Liquid Interiors has maximised the natural daylight and ventilation for the apartment. The use of air-purifying paint effectively reduces indoor air pollutants and odours while being eco-friendly and safe, featuring low or zero VOC content. The firm also utilised Palmedo construction boards, made from renewable oil palm tree fibres, which enhance energy efficiency and are recyclable.

A standout product is the Airlite Purelight paint, a Cradle to Cradle Certified™ (gold level) mineral paint that promotes environmental sustainability. This paint emphasises material reuse, renewable energy, and social equity.

For a sophisticated living room, Liquid Interiors applied Dolomite plaster, which offers a textured finish. In the bathroom, it used three-dimensional surfaces in Cotto and Bianco colours made from recycled raw materials to create a warm and natural ambiance.

Tips

Healthy options
Transform your home into a wellness sanctuary with thoughtful design choices that prioritise your health. An easy way to begin is by selecting air-purifying paint. This eco-friendly option reduces indoor air pollutants and odours, creating a healthier environment for you and your loved ones.

Safe havenCreating a child-friendly home doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. You can use safe design elements such as rounded corners and large arches to make sure your space is both stylish and safe for your little ones. These features can easily be added to your furniture, walls, and decor to minimise injury risks. For a warm and cosy vibe, go for materials such as wood and plush rugs. By combining safety with inviting materials, you can have a beautiful home that meets all your family’s needs.
