JAKARTA, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has commenced exports of the Chinese electric vehicle Chery Omoda 5 to Vietnam as PT Chery Sales Indonesia shipped an initial batch of 120 left-hand-drive units from Cikarang Port in West Java on Friday.
"Indonesia was selected as the export base due to its high manufacturing quality, with a target to deliver 5,000 units to Vietnam within the year," stated Chen Chunqing, Vice President of Chery International. To broaden its reach to additional markets, Chen added, the company is adapting specifications to meet the specific requirements of each region.
Indonesia's Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, commended Chery's expansion efforts, highlighting Indonesia's role as a production hub for motor vehicles, especially within Southeast Asia.
He also underscored the importance of raising the domestic component content in these vehicles from 40 percent to 60 percent, with increased involvement from small and medium enterprises in the supply chain.■
