China continues to issue yellow alert for rainstorms

BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhua) -- China's National Meteorological Center on Sunday evening continued to issue a yellow alert for rainstorms as heavy downpours are expected to lash parts of the country.

From 8 p.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday, heavy rains are forecast to hit parts of Guangxi, Guangdong, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Xizang, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Xinjiang, and Heilongjiang, the center said.

According to the center, parts of these regions may experience heavy rainfall, with maximum hourly precipitation exceeding 70 millimeters, accompanied by thunderstorms and gales.

Local governments have been urged to make appropriate preparations and fulfill their related responsibilities accordingly.

China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. ■
