BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:
1. China wins gold on the first day of ISF Gymnasiade 2024
More than 5,300 athletes and coaches from nearly 70 countries and regions are participating in the International School Sport Federation (ISF) Gymnasiade Bahrain 2024 which kicked off on October 24.
The Chinese team, consisting of 55 female and 48 male athletes, will compete in sports including track and field, swimming, 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball and table tennis.
Li Yuxuan, a student from Qianfeng School in Beijing's Changping District won China's first gold in the Gymnasiade, claiming victory in the blue and green belt category of the karate women's individual form (17-18 age group).
2. Sanya set to usher in China's National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities
The 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of the People's Republic of China will take place in Sanya, on South China's Hainan Island, starting November 22.
At a press conference on October 23, Zhang Changfeng, Sanya's Vice Mayor and an organizing committee official, provided updates on the event's preparations, expressing the city's goal: "We aim to surprise those who have never been to Sanya, and to offer a fresh perspective to those who have."
First held in 1953, this historic multi-sport event will see around 10,000 athletes from China's 56 ethnic groups gather on the tropical island to compete in 17 sports, 139 events, and three demonstration sports.
3. Dates, venues set for group stage of inaugural CBA Club Cup
Dates and competition zones were set on October 21 for the group phase of the inaugural Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league's mid-season Club Cup.
The inaugural Club Cup will be held during the international break in a competition format, featuring the group stage and the finals.
First-stage matches will take place from November 12 to 17 in four places: Dingzhou in Hebei Province, Huizhou in Guangdong Province, and Yantai and Qingdao, both in Shandong Province.
The 20 teams are divided into four groups to play in a round-robin format, with the top two teams of each group advancing to the finals.
4. Beijing opens CBA new season with a six-game winning streak
The undefeated Beijing Ducks topped the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) standings after rallying from a 16-point deficit to secure a 105-101 victory over long-time rivals, the Guangdong Southern Tigers, in the sixth round of the 2024-25 CBA regular season on October 25.
Following the Ducks, the Beijing Royal Fighters, Shanxi Loongs, defending champions Liaoning Flying Leopards and Zhejiang Lions each hold a record of five wins and one loss.
5. China remains undefeated in AFC U-17 Asian Cup qualifier
Following victories over Bahrain and Bhutan, China achieved a three-match winning streak in their AFC U-17 Asian Cup qualifying campaign with a 9-0 thrashing of the Maldives in Group C on October 25, with captain Yang Qiandong notching a hat-trick.
China will face off against South Korea on October 27 to compete for the current group leader.
