BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:

1. FISU World University Summer Games closes in Chengdu

The 31st FISU World University Games closed on August 8 at Open Air Music Park in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

From July 28 to August 8, a total of 6,500 athletes from 113 countries and regions competed in 269 events across 18 sports. FISU records were broken 22 times during the 12-day competitions.

The 411-athlete Chinese delegation, with more than half of these student-athletes selected through national trials, collected 178 medals, including 103 golds, to top the table, which featured athletes from 53 countries and regions, including 35 who won at least one gold medal.

2. China pocket eight golds at Diving World Cup Berlin Super Final

China's Chen Yiwen clinched the women's 3m springboard gold, while Yang Hao dominated the men's 10m platform on August 6, bringing China's gold medal haul to eight at the three-day World Aquatics World Cup Berlin Super Final.

Chinese divers also stood atop the podium in four synchronized events, namely the women's 10m, men's 3m, women's 3m and men's 10m, as well as the men's 3m springboard and women's 10m platform.

After their impressive medal haul, Chinese divers did not partake in the mixed team event.

3. Naturalized basketball player Li Kaier to embrace his debut in China

Li Kaier, the first naturalized player in the history of Chinese basketball, is set to welcome his debut in China in a warmup competition on August 20.

Born Kyle Anderson in New York City, United States, Li acquired Chinese citizenship through naturalization in July.

According to a social media post from Anderson's mother, her grandfather was born in China. In 2018, Anderson went to Shenzhen, in south China's Guangdong Province with his mother to search for their relatives there.

Li's first matches for his adopted country will be in a competition in Shenzhen on August 20 and 21, featuring national teams of China, Serbia, Italy, Brazil and New Zealand.

4. China launches table tennis grading test

The Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA) unveiled a table tennis level test in Beijing on August 8.

The test system comprises six levels, spanning levels four to nine. For levels four through eight, both manual and serving robot testing methods will be utilized, while level nine will exclusively involve manual testing.

As of June 10, the CTTA reported that over 1,500 individuals in 19 cities across China have taken the level test.

5. China marks 15th National Fitness Day

People across China have engaged in a wide range of mass fitness activities to celebrate the 15th National Fitness Day, which fell on August 8.

According to data provided by the General Administration of Sport, around Tuesday, more than 24,000 national fitness events were carried out across the country, with the number of participants estimated to exceed 6.5 million.■
