Hong Kong's neon-drenched streets have inspired generations of artists, and Hong Kong-based photographer Michael Kistler has captured them beautifully.

His moody layered images in saturated electric colours explore the themes of technological advancement and social decay.

A solo exhibition of his photographs, "Cyberpunk's Not Dead", is on at the Hong Kong Arts Collective in Sai Ying Pun, Western district, until January 31.

Born in the United States, Kistler spent a decade in Tokyo, where he honed his skills and drew inspiration from Daido Moriyama, a Japanese photographer known for his gritty street photography. He also cites as an influence fellow American photographer Saul Leiter " whose work in the 1940s and 1950s helped shape what came to be recognised as the New York school of photography.
