BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Japanese sports anime "Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle" topped the box office chart on the Chinese mainland on Sunday with a daily earning of 19.86 million yuan (about 2.8 million U.S. dollars), data showed.
The film was based on one of the most successful manga of the past decade "Haikyu!!," which tells the story of Shoyo Hinata, a boy determined to become a great volleyball player despite his small size.
Domestic teen comedy "Be My Friend" ranked second grossing 10.12 million yuan in box office revenue on Sunday.
"Break Through the Darkness," a crime action movie telling the story of China's fight against organized crime, came in third with a daily box office earning of 9.93 million yuan.
The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland stood at 84.39 million yuan on Sunday. ■
