Conor McGregor calls Floyd Mayweather "far from retired" after the boxing great posted a made-up fight poster of the pair under the caption "Mayweather McGregor 2" on Instagram.

Mayweather (professional boxing record 50-0) has not fought professionally since his 10th-round TKO win over McGregor in 2017. The American announced his 2020 comeback last year and has a verbal agreement with UFC president Dana White over a combat sports-related project.

"Yeah, he forgot to put McGregor Sports and Entertainment on the poster " that right there cuts him out, so it's me and Manny (Pacquiao)," joked the 31-year-old McGregor after his stunning first-round win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 on Sunday.

"Floyd is a funny man. The discussions are always ongoing. You know Floyd, he goes through money fast. He's far from retired. That rematch will happen at some point," said the Irishman.

The 42-year-old Mayweather then posted a similar fight poster image of himself and UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Both posters included Mayweather's own promotion businesses as well as UFC and Showtime, but do not specify whether these bouts " or Mayweather's comeback " would be in boxing or mixed martial arts.

White has long talked about the launch of Zuffa Boxing, the UFC's new boxing venture, later this year. However, he had stated that there were a few "speed bumps" along the way and that it is likely be postponed until October of this year.

"We'll see what happens. I spent so much in my boxing gym in Crumlin where I began, and look at what happens tonight," McGregor said in response to whether he would prioritise his MMA comeback over other combat sports ventures.

"I smack (Cerrone) with my shoulder and smack him with my foot … I'm an experienced fighter, I've been through it all. Ups and downs in the weights, across sports … as long as I'm fit, we'll see now what presents itself."

Khabib, who faces Tony Ferguson in a UFC lightweight title fight in April, has not boxed professionally in his career but has been rumoured for a crossover fight for more than a year.

In response to Khabib's call-out last year, Mayweather said "we're fighting" and he would be earning a "nine-figure payday".

Social media influencer Dan Bilzerian, who lost a substantial amount of money having bet against McGregor on the weekend, commented on Mayweather's McGregor poster: "You should let him fight at 170 (pounds) and you at 150. That would be interesting."
