- Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion thinks Diaz-Masvidal bout should be for a trophy instead
- ‘If you start putting the belt around people who are not the best, what does the belt mean, exactly?’
Miesha Tate thinks putting up a "BMF" title belt for the Madison Square Garden main event between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal makes the UFC seem like the WWE.
The winner of the fight at UFC 244 on November 2 will be given an actual championship, UFC president Dana White said after announcing the fight last week.
Though White confirmed the belt would be a "one and done" deal, with no future title defences for the "baddest (expletive)", Tate was still not enthusiastic.
"It really does marry that WWE feeling to the UFC in a way that's never been done before," the former women's bantamweight champion told Sirius XM radio.

"I'm a huge fan of both, I love watching them fight," she added. "But to put a belt around one of them, I just think it's a bit odd."

Tate's comments caused a bit of a stir on social media, and the 33-year-old " who is now a vice-president with Asian MMA organisation One Championship " defended herself on Twitter.
"A belt in any premier organisation is supposed to mean you are the best in the world," she said. "I'm not hating on these guys, huge fan of both fighting styles but why not make it for a trophy?"
