Mumbai will remain under lockdown till June 30 following extension of restrictions by India's western state of Maharashtra, with some relaxations as part of its phased unlocking plan.
MUMBAI, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Mumbai will remain under lockdown till June 30 following extension of restrictions by India's western state of Maharashtra on Sunday amid relaxations as part of its phased unlocking plan.
Maharashtra is the worst affected Indian state with over 65,000 positive COVID-19 cases while its political capital Mumbai tops the list among cities in India with some 38,000 cases so far.
In its revised guidelines in sync with the federal government's unlock plan 1.0, the western state has allowed all offices to operate with 15 percent strength, while private offices can work with 10 percent strength with the rest working from home.
Markets and retail outlets except those in malls are allowed to operate on odd-even basis from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, while night curfew will be maintained between 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. except for essential services, the state notification said.

International air travel of passengers will remain prohibited, except as permitted by the federal home ministry. Private vehicles have been allowed with certain restrictions, while mass transport including railways and metro remains prohibited.
Cinema halls, gymnasiums, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theaters, bars and auditoriums, assembly halls and similar places along with barber shops, spas, salons, beauty parlors will remain closed.
As of Sunday evening, India, now ranked ninth among all countries in terms of number of COVID-19 confirmed cases, has 89,995 active cases with 5,164 deaths reported so far. ■
