Lufthansa will resume three daily cargo flights between German cities and Shanghai, and two daily cargo flights between German cities and Beijing, from mid-April.
SHANGHAI, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Lufthansa plans to resume scheduled flights between Germany and China from mid-April to serve demand in air cargo transport, according to Lufthansa Cargo China Thursday.
Starting from mid-April, Lufthansa will comprehensively resume three daily flights between German cities and Shanghai, and two daily flights between German cities and Beijing, said Lufthansa Cargo China.
All of these flights will be cargo flights, to be undertaken by converted passenger airplanes.
This move aims to serve strong air transport demand between Europe and China, especially the need to transport emergency supplies to combat the COVID-19 outbreak, said Janet Mi, chief representative with Lufthansa Cargo China.
The converted airplanes will mainly serve missions of carrying protective clothing, face masks, gloves, ventilators and other emergency medical supplies.
The air carrier estimates that, after resuming these flights between German cities and two Chinese cities of Beijing and Shanghai, these converted airplanes can carry around 125 tonnes of air cargo per day.
All-cargo freighters of Lufthansa will also see the density of flights to China return to the level before the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Mi added.
These freighters are capable of providing more extensive air transport services, such as carrying large medical equipment and production lines for anti-epidemic materials, according to Mi. ■
