Ikea x Virgil Abloh: A Look At The Quirky New Collaboration

With the new Ikea x Virgil Abloh collection launching in just a few weeks, we take a look at what's in store and how to cop it

After designing a rug for Ikea that sold out within minutes of its launch earlier this year, it's only natural that Virgil Abloh—founder and CEO of Off-White and artistic director of Louis Vuitton's menswear—and the Swedish furniture giant are back at it again.

This time, with a full collection of 15 pieces comprising a day bed, table, chair, mirror, lighting, bed textiles, cabinet and accessories.

Perhaps the most eye-catching piece in the collection is the low-pile 3x7 foot rug, fashioned to look like a giant Ikea receipt for the rug itself. Cute.

Abloh's signature in-your-face lettering makes several appearances throughout the collection, which is named MARKERAD. A smaller green rug is inscribed with the words “WET GRASS”, an all-white wall clock reminds you that time is "TEMPORARY", there's a tote that reads "SCULPTURE" and a bright pencil case emblazoned with the word "HOMEWORK".

“It’s about elevating the anonymous, everyday icons that we use without noticing. When we put a doorstop on one of the legs of an ordinary chair we create something unexpected—an interruption," Abloh said of the collection.

The Ikea x Virgil Abloh MARKERAD collection is scheduled to launch on November 1 at Ikea's Wembley and Croydon stores in London, but anticipating the inevitable hype that follows all things Virgil Abloh, Ikea will be issuing special access tickets for the day on October 18 at 10am London time.
