A Hong Kong policeman has been arrested on suspicion of buying mobile phones with a stolen credit card.

The 28-year-old, a member of the Police Tactical Unit, was taken into custody on charges of theft and deception in Chai Wan on Tuesday.

He was later released on bail and must report back next month.

In October, a 40-year-old man contacted police after realising two mobile phones worth a total of HK$25,000 (US$3,200) had been bought with a credit card he previously lost at Cityplaza in Taikoo Shing.

A police spokesman said the force attached great importance to the integrity of its officers, and would not tolerate illegal acts conducted by any personnel.
