NANNING, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has sent 912 medical workers, including 329 from ethnic minority groups, to the hardest-hit Hubei province amid coronavirus outbreak, local authorities said.
Home to 12 native minorities, Guangxi has a population of more than 20 million ethnic people, the largest number of ethnic minorities in China.
The 7th batch of 193 medical workers with an average age of 33.5 arrived in Hubei on Friday. Among them, 66 are from different minority groups such as Zhuang, Yao and Miao nationalities.
Before the departure, the medical personnel held balls made of strips of silk, a symbol of solidarity and good luck, saying they would fight the virus together with the people in Hubei.
"I'm proud of myself because I can help others," said Wei Yaoteng, a 26-year-old nurse of Zhuang nationality.
The 193 medical workers come from 41 hospitals across Guangxi.
As of Wednesday, a total of 278 teams consisting of 32,395 medical workers across the country have been sent to Hubei Province to join in the battle against the virus. ■
