  • The branding was evident from her nails to her face mask – did she have the Wuhan coronavirus in mind?

18-year-old music star Billie Eilish, who won the award for best vocal album at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, made quite a statement with her head-to-toe Gucci look on the pre-show red carpet.

The singer and songwriter, who last year reached number one on global music charts with her runaway hit Bad Guy, showed up in a black pyjama set embroidered with fluorescent green Gucci logos.

The branding extended to her bold green manicure and, more strikingly, to the piEce de resistance " a Gucci face mask similar to those that people in China are wearing to protect themselves amid the outbreak of the Wuhan coronavirus.

The virus has recently spread to the west coast of the United States.

Eilish previously announced that she would hold a concert in Hong Kong on August 30.

One wonders if the rising star will repeat the look while performing in the city, where face masks have been making headlines in recent months, but for different reasons.

Amid anti-government protests that have now reached their eight month in the city, the local government attempted last year to ban protesters from wearing them in order hide their identity.

Gucci is not the first luxury brand to debut luxury face masks.

At Paris Fashion Week in September, designer Marine Serre also showed models wearing them on the catwalk for her spring/summer 2020 show.
