Police over the last nine days have seized 75kg of cocaine with a street value of more than HK$90 million (US$11.5 million) from a drug gang in northern Hong Kong.
Officers from the Narcotics Bureau and the Key Points and Search Division on Friday found some 36 bags of cocaine hidden in a cargo container of cowhides during a raid at a logistics centre in Sheung Shui. The cocaine in the bags was valued at HK$50 million.
The raid was carried out after police seized 35kg worth of cocaine and arrested six local men in two warehouses in Sheung Shui and Sha Tau Kok on November 28.
These drugs found in the first raid, which were also found hidden in load of cowhide, had an estimated street value of HK$43 million.
The six men, aged between 26 and 36, were charged with drug trafficking for their alleged connections to the earlier raid at Fanling Court on Monday.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the cocaine had been smuggled to Hong Kong from South America.
A police spokesman said more arrests were possible in the case.
