CrossFit is hosting a fundraising competition in the style of the CrossFit Open to support gyms during the coronavirus lockdown. Affiliates around the world are struggling as clients are not able to leave their homes, or in Hong Kong's case, the government has closed gyms to stop the spread.

To help gyms, starting on April 3, CrossFit will release a weekly workout. It will have a scaled option so athletes of all abilities can take part and will be suitable to complete at home. Similar to the Open, participants can upload their scores to be placed on a leaderboard.

The competition is free to enter, but there will be an optional donation of between US$20 (HK$155) and US$1,000, which will be distributed to gyms depending on the participant's preferences.

Registration for the competition starts on March 31, via the CrossFit Games official website.

CrossFit Headquarters is working to provide immediate support to @CrossFit affiliates by hosting an online competition with all registration proceeds going to affiliates in need. The details of this worldwide event will be announced in the coming days. https://t.co/8sXIlVTNH7

CrossFit has already reduced or wiped fees for affiliates in countries where the government has locked down citizens or banned going to gyms.

"While many of us are forced to temporarily distance ourselves from one another, CrossFit trainers and affiliates have gone to extraordinary lengths to serve and support their members despite these challenging circumstances. They are truly the lifeblood of the CrossFit community," a statement on CrossFit's website said. "It's our turn to give back to them."
